Welcome…

Some of my earliest memories are of lying under the covers long after lights out, a torch in one hand and a book in the other, certain that whatever was happening on those pages was too important to wait until morning. That feeling has never left me. These days the settings change — a café, a long flight, a quiet Sunday in Wellington — but the pull is the same. Books have always felt like the closest thing we have to climbing inside another person’s life and looking out through their eyes.

That is, I think, why I write.

I have always been fascinated by people whose worlds are different from my own, by the way life can hold so much that I would never have seen from the outside. I collect those glimpses the way some people collect stamps: a stranger’s turn of phrase, a story told over coffee, a place that gets under your skin and stays there. Writing is how I make sense of all of it, how I give those accumulated moments somewhere to live.

I write fiction and short stories under my own name TJ Lewis. My Redemption Falls series is set deep in Montana, in a world of loyalty, belonging, and lives that don’t fit neatly into any one category. The first book, A Life Between Names, is available on Amazon, with more to follow. Extensive time spent travelling in the United States shaped the world I built there, and the characters who live in it, people whose choices feel both genuine and deeply human.

This site is where you will find some of my short fiction alongside links to published work. In another life entirely, I work in New Zealand’s public sector. It is good work, and I am proud of it, but it is not where my stories live.

More is always in progress. I hope something here finds you at the right moment, the way books always seem to.
